Recently, researchers have focused their attention on incorporating sustainability into transportation systems by consideringmultiple systems simultaneously. Amekudzi et al. (2009) presented a framework for a sustainability footprintand a model that would be useful to analyze the effects of transportation and other infrastructure systems on regional sustainabledevelopment. The major contributions included the introduction of both spatial and temporal flexibility to enabledecision makers with broadly different priorities to reach a consensus on short-term goals. Böhringer and Löschel (2006)investigated the use of computable general equilibrium (CGE) models for assessing the effects of policy interference on economic, environmental, and social indicators.
